How it works...

  • Sign a waiver form once annually
  • Staff are present to belay
  • All equipment needed to participate will be provided 
  • Personal harnesses, shoes, and chalk are welcome
  • Belay certification test is available for those desiring to climb independently of staff.

Sessions are generally 60 minutes in length and can be tailored to your interests.

Exercise Referral Program

In collaboration with POWER, TRACS, UK Counseling Center and UHS, current students can facilitate a self-referral to meet with a UK Campus Recreation Fitness professional to discuss their needs and program options.

 

How it works...

Students enrolled in the ERP program work with a Certified Personal Trainer with the goal of learning how to incorporate physical activity and exercise into their daily lifestyle. If you are a UK student that would benefit from physical activity, click the button below to get started!

Available Options: Fitness Assessment, Facility Equipment Orientation, Basic Exercise Program Design, 5-Private Training Sessions led by Certified Personal Trainer, and 10-Private Training Sessions led by a Certified Personal Trainer.

By the end of the ERP program, the goal is for each participant to meet ACSM/CDC/ US Department of Health recommendations for weekly Physical Activity for Adults.

ACSM Physical Activity Guidelines include:

  • At least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity Aerobic Exercise weekly or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate/vigorous aerobic activity. 
  • Conduct at least moderately intense muscle-strengthening activities that include all major muscle groups, two or more days a week.

Fit Academy

Fit Academy is a unique educational opportunity for UK students to become certified personal trainers and group fitness instructors. If you like to motivate others to reach their health and fitness goals or have ever thought about getting certified to be a group fitness instructor, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Requirements

  • Monthly Educational Sessions 
  • Weekly Shadowing & Co-Teaching
  • Weekly Certification Studying
  • Successful completion of certification exam 
 
* Expected that students will spend 3-6 hours per week to fulfill the above requirements

Fit Academy is the first step to being a fitness instructor. Coming in as a freshman in the fall, I was intimidated. I soon realized I was welcomed into a community not just of group fitness instructors but of kind, motivated people who really cared to see me succeed. Fit2You Outreach

Submit a Fit2You Service Request below and the Fitness department will work with you in scheduling and planning for your event.

The Program is free and options include Fitness classes or education sessions, generally 60 minutes in length. 

Programs can be tailored to your group's needs.

For on-campus events that are not in a Campus Recreation facility, reserve your event site through the Office of University Events.  In the Event Description section, please identify that you are requesting UK Campus Recreation Fitness Staff to lead the event with a Certified Fitness Instructor.

Group Fitness Classes

Classes range in length from 30-60 minutes and capacity varies based on location and format.

Registration is not required but is strongly recommended. When class registration fills up a waitlist will be created.

How it works...

  • Please arrive 5 minutes prior to the scheduled class time.
  • At class check-in, registered, then waitlisted, then walk-up participants will be admitted until the class reaches capacity.
  • Entry to the class will close 5 minutes after the scheduled start time.

Guest Passes

Guest Passes

Guest passes for Alumni Gym, the Johnson Center, and Lancaster Aquatic Center are available for $10 per person per visit (contactless payment, check, or credit card) and must be hosted by a current member. Members may host up to 2 guest passes per day and must accompany their guests at all times while in the facility.

To enter the Alumni Gym and the Johnson center, guests must be at least 14 years old and provide a photo ID for admittance.

To enter Lancaster Aquatic Center, guest minors must be 48" tall, monitored by an adult, and have a waiver completed by a parent or guardian.

Alumni Association Passes 

Current members of the UK Alumni Association may purchase a single-use pass at Alumni Gym, the Johnson Center, and Lancaster Aquatic Center for $10 (contactless payment, check, or credit card.) Alumni wishing to utilize this service must present a current University of Kentucky Alumni Association Membership Card and a photo ID.

Locker Rental

Locker rentals are $5 per month with a minimum 3-month purchase. Call (859) 257-3928 to sign-up on the Johnson Center locker rental waiting list (availability is limited). Visit the Lancaster Aquatic Center control desk during open recreation to set up your rental.

Alumni Gym, Johnson Center, and Lancaster Aquatic Center also have day-use lockers available.

Memberships

Most students attending in-person courses at the University of Kentucky already have a membership! Just bring your UK Wildcard ID and swipe in. Membership provides access to all Campus Recreation facilities, including Lancaster Aquatic Center.

Not sure if you have a membership or if you need one? Stop by the business office in Alumni Gym or the Johnson Center.

Request a trainer and complete the intake packet at the link below. You will be paired with a trainer based on your and the trainer’s availability.

Power Rack Reservations

Tired of long wait times? On a tight schedule? Need some dedicated time on a power rack or deadlift platform? Campus Recreation is excited to offer reservable rack space in the Johnson Center!

These state-of-the-art power rack and deadlift spaces offer a one-stop full-body training opportunity.

Each rack includes a dedicated adjustable bench, barbell, bumper plates, dumbbells, kettlebells, low-profile weight collars, a pull-up bar, and pulley access.

Other specialty accessories are available in the room making this a one-stop, modular training space that each person can configure to meet their needs.

How it works...

  • Advance reservations begin at the top of every hour and reservation holders who have not checked in by 10 minutes after the hour will forfeit their reserved time. 
  • Those who have forfeited their reservation may still make a walk-in reservation upon arrival if unreserved racks remain available.
  • Walk-in reservations may be made at any time during open hours.
  • Every reservation holder may have one additional person with them in the rack space at a time. To prevent crowding, reservation holders with parties larger than two must have the additional training partners remain outside the reservable rack area until it is their turn to lift.

Make an online reservation or come to the Johnson Center control desk and a staff member can assist you.

  • Reservations may be made two days in advance. 
  • Walk-in reservations may be made at any time during open hours.
  • Those wishing to play Wallyball should inform the control desk staff upon arrival and they will set up the net and check out a ball. 
  • Activities must be appropriate for the court space and facility supervisors can assist with those questions.

Swim Lessons
