The University of Kentucky salutes our men and women in uniform serving honorably around the globe. If you are stationed at Fort Knox, Fort Campbell, or another Kentucky location, then you and your family will be considered in-state for tuition purposes.  If you choose one of our online degree programs AND use your GI Bill® benefit you too will be considered in-state for tuition purposes regardless of residency or duty station.

Department of Defense Refunds

Department of Defense Personnel using Tuition Assistance (TA) from their branch of service will have any unearned TA funds returned to their branch of service on a proportional basis through at least the 60 percent portion of the period for which the funds were provided. TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned to the respective branch of service based upon when a student stops attending (withdrawal from, dropping the course, or ceasing to attend). Refund calculations apply to any student who is attending this institution and withdrawals within 60% into the period of enrollment for which the student has received TA. Once a student has completed more than 60% of the period of enrollment, all of their assistance has been earned (by the school) and will be retained by the university.  In the event that a service member must withdraw from a course due to deployment or activation, UK will work with the student to refund 100% of the TA to his or her branch of service provided proper documentation (military orders) is provided to the Department of Military Initiatives. For additional refund percentages and timelines students should refer to the applicable academic calendar published by the Registrar at registrar.uky.edu
