Aku joined the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life as the Fraternal Housing Coordinator for Gamma Phi Beta in October 2022. She was born and raised in southside Atlanta, Georgia, but her and her family are originally from Nigeria and Ghana. Aku graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Berea College. In the summer of 2019, Aku completed two internships abroad in Cape Town, South Africa as a Health and Hygiene Program Developer at the Alpha School Learners with Autism and worked alongside former CEO of Beyond Bars Akademia, Stephanie Simbo. Aku officially relocated back to Kentucky in October 2020, where she started working at UK in Student Success, as an Office Assistant for Residence Life, and recently worked for the Center of Academic Resources and Enrichment Services (CARES) as their Summer Resident Director and later transitioned into being the administrative support associate. Her passion stems from her nurturing and welcoming spirit, as she works extremely hard to make sure that she is a reliable resource for all her students, whom she loves to refer to as her kids. She always wants to step forward in helping students adjust to college life as they grow academically, professionally, and in their personal lives.  Her favorite part about working in FSL is the amazing staff and gradually learning all her students’ personalities to build a solid relationship with them. Aku is currently a first-year graduate student in the Martin School of Public Policy, pursuing her Master’s in Public Administration. In her free time, Aku enjoys late night drives in the city, watching movies, photography, painting, trying new restaurants, and cooking and tasting new cuisines from all over the world.
