Ms. Lydia received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kent State University. She values and understands the importance higher education plays in making one’s life better. She is the second child out seven that went to college, although all her siblings were encouraged to pursue college. Her parents understood how important higher education is to improving better opportunities for their children.

Ms. Lydia has been actively working with first generation students since 1990. She was the counselor in the original grant for the SSS program at Lincoln University (Jefferson City MO.) for five years and the director for 1 year. After moving to Lexington KY in 1996 she spent the year helping her children adjust to the move while looking for employment where she could continue her work with underrepresented individuals. As such, in 1997, Lydia began her work with Student Support Services once again as the counselor. She remained in that role until the director relocated and consequently promoted to the role of director in 2001.
