Restorative Action Options

Student Conduct uses the CATS Success Plan model for developing restorative action plans. This model is designed to support and educate Student Organizations (SOs) in their decision-making regarding violations of the Code of Student Conduct (Code) and/or University Housing Community Standards (UHCS). The student conduct process is meant to be educational and encourage SOs to consider their impacts on others and remain accountable to University expectations. SOs found responsible in the student conduct process may be assigned restorative actions that align with each category below to facilitate growth and learning. These plans vary based on severity of the behavior, impact on the community and past disciplinary records.

Below are examples of restorative action options for each CATS Success category. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list but a helpful starting point.

Community Engagement and Support

Event Management Coaching
Strengthen your organization’s event planning and risk management skills. Guided by university staff, leaders review current practices, discuss upcoming events, and explore strategies to align with policies, foster accountability, and create safe, positive experiences for members and guests.

New Member Process Coaching
Enhance your organization’s new member education and integration. Leaders work with an FSL chapter coach to review the new member process, ensuring safety, inclusivity, and alignment with values. The session promotes transparency and eliminates harmful or secretive practices.

Recruitment Coaching
Strengthen your approach to attracting and selecting members aligned with organizational values. Leaders review recruitment practices with an FSL coach, develop engagement strategies, and foster a culture prioritizing character, inclusivity, and long-term organizational success.

University Transition Meeting
Outgoing and incoming presidents meet with university and/or inter/national representatives to reflect on past challenges, review restorative action progress, and discuss strategies for improvement. The meeting ensures accountability, supports leadership transitions, and connects new leaders to resources.

Active Accountability

Social Event Success Plan
A phased approach to preparing for safe, responsible alcohol-related events. Each phase builds knowledge, practices risk management, and ensures compliance with university and inter/national policies, prioritizing safety, accountability, and positive community relationships.

Social Restriction
Temporary limits on alcohol-related events while encouraging alternative programming, such as alcohol-free socials, brotherhood/sisterhood activities, philanthropy, and community-building events. Supports accountability and member engagement while promoting safer event practices.

Social Suspension
A temporary pause on alcohol-related events, with encouragement to focus on alcohol-free activities, leadership, service, and community-building. Supports reflection, accountability, and growth while maintaining organizational engagement and culture.

Thoughtful Reflection

Event Calendar
Helps your organization plan a structured semester schedule, including meetings, philanthropy, and social events. Promotes transparency, accountability, and balance while helping members manage responsibilities and align activities with university expectations.

Event Management Plan
A resource for consistent, compliant event planning. Outlines procedures for registration, alcohol management, guest lists, crisis response, and event monitoring. Serves as a training tool to foster accountability and proactive risk management.

Membership Expectations
Collaboratively define member behavior standards and responsibilities. Through discussion and a formal contract, members take ownership of culture, strengthen peer accountability, and empower the standards/judicial board to address concerns consistently.

Officer Transition Plan
Supports smooth leadership transitions and continuity. Outgoing and incoming officers document responsibilities, deadlines, initiatives, and lessons learned, then meet with staff or advisors to review progress, discuss restorative actions, and connect new leaders to resources.

Organization Standards and Accountability Plan
Guides officers in defining behavior expectations and accountability mechanisms. Using member feedback and coaching, the plan strengthens peer accountability, reinforces values, and establishes a foundation for long-term cultural growth.

Restorative Action Plan Presentation
Ensures all members understand the conduct process outcomes and required actions. Leaders present the plan to promote transparency, accountability, and shared responsibility, reinforcing trust and organizational growth.

Social Expectation Dialogue
Leadership-led session to reflect on event culture and responsibilities. Covers policies, alcohol expectations, and reputational impact, building shared understanding, reinforcing accountability, and fostering a healthier organizational environment.

Self-Development and Education

Conflict Resolution Training
Provides tools to address internal disagreements constructively. OSC introduces strategies for communication, mediation, and problem-solving, helping members manage conflicts respectfully and maintain healthy organizational relationships.

Event Monitor Training
Prepares members to serve responsibly at events. Training covers guest management, alcohol oversight, crisis response, and policy enforcement, ensuring events are safe, compliant, and well-managed.

HQ Educational Program
Inter/national staff provide targeted support on topics like leadership, risk management, or organizational culture. Programs address organizational needs, reinforce broader standards, and help members develop skills aligned with headquarters’ values.

Membership Development Activities
Engage members in alcohol-free programming focused on leadership, wellness, academics, service, and philanthropy. These activities promote growth, strengthen connections, and demonstrate commitment to responsible engagement and community contribution.

Mock Social Event
Hands-on exercise to practice hosting safe, compliant events. Members work with staff and inter/national representatives, demonstrate risk management skills, gain feedback, and build confidence for future events.

Standards/Judicial Board Training
Equips accountability bodies to operate effectively. OSC guides sessions on procedures, fair decision-making, and best practices, empowering boards to uphold standards, foster peer accountability, and manage organizational concerns transparently.
