VIP Center

At VIP, our mission is to support and advocate for individuals impacted by interpersonal violence while engaging the University of Kentucky and the surrounding community in interpersonal violence education and prevention. We believe we all have a role to play in keeping others safe from harm.  

People visit the VIP Center for the first time for many reasons. People may want to learn more about how to get involved, schedule a prevention education program, or make an appointment with a confidential advocate.  Our VIP staff stands ready to serve you, whether it is because you or someone you care about has experienced interpersonal violence, which might include intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking, or because you want to learn more about VIP.  No matter your reason, expect to be warmly greeted and immediately connected. 

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! 

Every October, the VIP Center honors survivors and welcomes the UK community to join us at our DVAM events throughout the month to learn more about DVAM, the VIP Center, and how we can all play a role in shaping a violence-free campus.  Our calendar of events includes:

10/1- Kick off DVAM with us at Moctoberfest, 5-7 pm, Lewis Hall Courtyard.

10/7- Purple Pumkin Painting Party, 4-6 pm, Barker Plaza. Drop in and paint a pumpkin to take home, or leave it with us to display across campus for DVAM. Sign up at BBNvolved.

10/8- Green Dot Student Workshop, 5:30- 7 pm, at The Learning Bar.  Come out, learn how to be an active bystander, and get free pizza and mocktails.  Sign up on BBNvolved. 

10/16- Purple Thursday!  Wear something purple to show your support for survivors for the National Purple Thursday celebration! 

10/21- 10/24- Clothesline Project, all day, at GSC social staircase. View the powerful display of shirts handmade by survivors and the support notes from the community.  If someone would like to make a shirt for the display, please reach out to the VIP Center, and we will provide the supplies!  

10/23- Purple Thursday!  Wear something purple to show your support for survivors for the National Purple Thursday celebration! 

10/23- Scale Smash, 1-3 pm, Alumni Commons Walkway. 

10/23- Rise Up Domestic Violence Community Vigil, 5:30-7 pm, Lexington Courthouse Plaza
