The Clothesline Project October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The VIP Center presents the Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project began in 1990 when members of the Cape Cod Women’s Agenda hung a clothesline across the Village Green in Hyannis, Massachusetts, with 31 shirts designed by survivors of assault, rape, and child sexual abuse. Women viewing the clothesline came forward to create shirts of their own, and the line kept growing. 

Today, every October, the VIP Center presents The Clothesline Project display at the University of Kentucky to honor survivors of all experiences of Interpersonal Violence and stand in solidarity.  We can all play a role in shaping a violence-free campus, and we can start by believing in and supporting survivors in our community.  The shirts on display are handmade by survivors and the people who love and support survivors.  Some shirts will depict and express survivors' experiences surviving interpersonal violence, and therefore, some shirts may be triggering to some individuals.  Please know that you are not alone and if you need support, reach out to the VIP Center to speak with a free and confidential advocate.
