Every October, the VIP Center celebrates Domestic Violence Awareness Month by hosting and collaborating on a variety of events and programs.  DVAM is a time for the community to come together and honor survivors' experiences, mourn those we've lost, commemorate our progress, and recommit to our purpose for a safer community.

  • Moctoberfest Wednesday, October 9th, 3 pm to 5 pm at Hilltop Ave.  Stop by our table to pick up your DVAM purple ribbon temporary tattoo, candy, and a Find Your Green Dot koozie!  Get information about DVAM and how to be a Green Dot Active Bystander. This event is hosted by POWER and Residence Life.
  • Smash the Scale Thursday, October 24th 1 pm to 3 pm at Alumni Commons.  Our table will have an interactive trivia game to play, “Challenge your assumptions” on the topic of survivorship and body acceptance and some excellent prizes.  This event is hosted by POWER and UK Panhellenic.
  • DVAM Panel Discussion on IPV:  It’s On Us, VIP, and Dr. Katie Showalter, PhD, UK College of Social Work will be hosting a panel discussion on IPV and healthcare for the IHRC LLP.  This panel discussion will take place in the WGV classroom on October 30th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Freshman pre-healthcare students will mostly be the audience for this event. People can RSVP for the event ahead of time, and the maximum number of students allowed to sign up for the event is 40.  The sign-up link and more details are TBD.
