FAQs

What is BetterMynd?

BetterMynd is a virtual licensed clinician therapy option provided to UK students as part of our Continuum of Care.

Who is eligible to use BetterMynd through UK?

All students are eligible users.

How many BetterMynd counseling sessions am I eligible for as a UK student?

UK students start with 6 sessions and may request up to 10 in collaboration with their clinician. Sessions reset at the beginning of the academic year (August 1).

What happens after I use all my free BetterMynd credits?

Your therapist can assess if more sessions are needed. A referral to other services may be necessary.

Can I see a BetterMynd therapist and a UK Counseling Center clinician at the same time?

Students should engage with one therapist at a time. Therefore, if you are seeing a therapist in person, you should not also use BetterMynd. If you have questions about access during certain times of the day or year and how in-person vs. virtual options are available, discuss with your therapist.

How do I log in?

UK students can use the following direct link:

UK BetterMynd

What should I do if I can't access my account or log into my session?

On the BetterMynd website, you will find a Student Support beacon in the lower right corner of your screen. You can type in your question or use the ask feature to populate a question for our campus support team. Visit our online knowledge base for additional support resources to get the most out of your BetterMynd account. If you're still having trouble finding the answer you need, reach out to us at support@bettermynd.com.

How much does a visit cost?

Visits are covered by your Wellness Fee. There are no additional costs within the allocated number of sessions.

What can I be treated for?

Students can be treated for any mental health concerns they have, including clinical diagnoses such as anxiety and depression. Therapists are prepared to assess your needs and determine if therapy is a needed option or if other services may be more helpful.

I am under 18 and do not meet the minimum age requirement. What do I do?

Students under 18 cannot participate in BetterMynd services. Please schedule an appointment with the TRACS office to discuss your options: TRACS

I don't have a private space to have a telecounseling session. What can I do?

Virtual counseling is an option that should be selected if you have access to confidential and private spaces. If you don’t have such a space, it may be better for you to meet with a therapist in person in our TRACS office first to discuss your options.

What if I want to speak with a counselor with a specific specialty or background?

BetterMynd seeks to meet your needs in terms of areas of specialty and background based on your responses to their intake form.

Who should I reach out to in a crisis?

BetterMynd provides an after-hours crisis response, which can be accessed by calling the Counseling Center at 859-257-8701 and pressing #1.

If you or others may need crisis support, you can also contact 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or 911 for other emergencies.

What other well-being resources do I have access to at UK?

Well-being support is infused throughout the campus in various ways. At UK, there are offices specifically set up to address your mental health, support you in managing crises or challenges and maintain your physical health. Services that may be helpful for you are listed here at our well-being page. Additionally, if you need a referral to a service, you can submit the Get Help form. If you are in crisis and need immediate support, contact our after-hours support from BetterMynd or contact 988 for mental health emergencies or 911 for other emergencies.

I'm concerned about a UK student. How can I connect them with support?

Completing a Get Help Form is the best way for a timely referral to a service to help a student. If the student is experiencing a mental health emergency, contact 988 or for general emergencies call 911.

I was using Talkspace for online therapy. Do I need to switch to BetterMynd?

While Talkspace’s contract with UK has ended, students may wish to stay with their current Talkspace therapist. Ask your current therapist if they are also part of BetterMynd’s network. If they are, you should be able to continue seeing them through BetterMynd; register here. If they are not affiliated with BetterMynd, you can continue to use Talkspace and pay them directly for their services or switch to a new therapist from the BetterMynd network to take advantage of the free online therapy benefit through UK.
