Participating as a FWS Employer: Your organization must agree to pay the required 25% wage matching charge plus FICA and background check costs to employ FWS student workers.  Agreements are signed by representatives of the organization and University personnel before the hiring process begins.  Agreements are typically made for an academic year or summer term.  Matching charges are billed quarterly.  Please let us know if you have questions about an invoice.

Who can I hire?

Any student who is eligible or has been awarded a Federal Work-Study award. Employers must confirm all eligibility and awards with the Federal Work-Study Office.  

What are my responsibilities to an FWS student worker?

  • Ensure that students enter their hours before the deadline that time is due.  
  • Approving students’ hours before the deadline that time is due.

What are my responsibilities to the FWS Office?

Contacting the Federal Work-Study Office for all-time issues before the deadline that time is due.  

How to post a new hire position?

  1. Complete the Job Listing Form
  1. Wait for your job to be posted on IES and receive your guest user log-in information. 
  1. Before contacting an application to interview, please contact the FWS Office to confirm FWS eligibility.  
  1. Once FWS eligibility has been confirmed and the applicant has accepted the position, inform the FWS Office to begin the hiring process.  
  1. The FWS Office will send the supervisor the Hiring Form & will also copy the supervisor on an email providing the student with I-9 directions (if an I-9 is required).  
  1. Once the Hiring Form and I-9 is received and processed by the FWS Office, the supervisor and student will receive an email once the student may begin working.

How to complete a job listing form for a returning student?

  1. Complete the Job Listing Form
  1. The FWS Office will contact you to confirm FWS eligibility for the student. 
  1. The supervisor will receive a Hiring Form from the FWS Office. 
  1. Once the Hiring Form is received and processed by the FWS Office, the supervisor and student will receive an email once the student may begin working.
