Residence Life at the University of Kentucky ensures the safety of our students in undergraduate housing is a core focus. We believe a secure environment is essential for a fulfilling academic and social experience. Here’s how we work towards a safer community:
Staff Support
In addition to Resident Advisors (RAs) on the floors, our staffing model ensures that trained professionals, backed by a team of experienced supervisors for additional support, are always available to assist students. If students need to connect with a staff member, stop by the front desk of their residence hall or contact their RA or Resident Director (RD).
Regular Safety Training
Our staff receive initial and ongoing training in safety protocols and emergency response. This education is a crucial aspect of maintaining a secure living environment.
Safety Awareness Programs
Part of our programming is dedicated to educating students about safety issues relevant to both campus life and beyond. These initiatives aim to equip students with important safety knowledge and skills.
Policy Compliance
We actively enforce safety-related policies, including fire safety checks, adherence to visitation and escort rules, securing doors, and a fair conduct process for safety violations. Regular monitoring of the physical condition of our buildings is also a key part of our approach, ensuring maintenance issues are addressed promptly.
