Doctoral Practicum
The doctoral practicum at the Counseling Center is designed to promote a developmental process in which students move into the role of therapist and prepare for their internship experience. While the bulk of training occurs in group and individual supervision and through service delivery, students also participate in an hour-long practicum seminar which includes a combination of lecture, experiential exercises, case presentations, and exploration of evidence-based treatments. Because the training staff believes that the foundation of professional competence and identity comes through personal development and maturity, it is the center’s goal to provide a supportive environment that models and encourages personal growth. Students from the University of Kentucky Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology doctoral programs and students from Eastern Kentucky University's Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program are eligible to apply for the practicum.
Former Intern Records and Internship Verification: Closed Record Verification Service (CRVS)
The Counseling Center’s APA Accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship Program ran from August 2012 through August 2022.
Former interns may access their records by contacting an Associate Director at UKCC who can also complete a verification form of their completed internship. Alternatively, UKCC has archived intern records with ASPPB's Closed Record Verification Service as described below.
The Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) has been a leader in the retention of psychologist data since 1961. As psychology training programs and universities close, ASPPB offers to permanently store the records for psychologists having attended the program/school as an agent for the primary source. This ensures availability of the records for future purposes of psychology licensure.
How do I request university records from ASPPB?
- Access PSY|PRO, ASPPB’s online credentials management system, to request closed records. If you are accessing PSY|PRO for the first time, be sure to select "Register as a new user." Once logged in to your PSY|PRO account at www.psypro.org, you will see on the right-hand side of your screen, under “Select an Activity”, the option titled “Transferring my Records from a Closed Program”. Please select this option, and then, complete the request to its entirety.
