The Veterans Resource Center provides assistance with VA education benefits throughout students’ time at UK. 

Check out the most common questions below to ensure you’re off to a great start as a UK student!

Need to Apply for VA Education Benefits?

Apply for your VA education benefits through the Federal VA website.  If you have questions regarding the VA education benefits application, contact the VA Education Hotline at 888-442-4551.

*The Department of Veterans Affairs determines education benefit eligibility.

Apply for VA Education Benefits

Received VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

Scan your COE or take a picture of it and email it to the UK VRC Office

*Once the Federal VA processes and approves your education benefit application, they will mail you your Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

If your student is using a VA education benefit, they will receive the in-state tuition rate here at UK. The VRC needs a copy of the VA COE to request a residency status change.

Received My KDVA Tuition Waiver

Submit the UK KDVA internal benefit request form, so this aid gets posted to the student’s UK account.

*After Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs approves a students' KDVA Tuition Waiver application they will email a copy of the waiver to the personal email address provided on the application AND to the UK VRC office.

Submit UK KDVA Benefit Request Form

I've Registered for Courses and Want to Use My VA Education Benefits

Submit the UK internal benefit request form for Chapter 33 - Post-9/11, Chapter 35 DEA, MGIB or VR&E benefit form AFTER registering for courses.

*If you are receiving the Chapter 35 benefit AND the KDVA tuition waiver, submit a separate benefit request form for EACH benefit

Are you a Veteran Student with a 10% or Higher VA Disability Rating?

Veterans that are 10 percent service connected or higher VA disability rating may be eligible for the Chapter 31 - VR&E Program.

UK has an onsite VR&E counselor to meet with students to discuss this program.

What is the UK Internal Benefit Request Form?

- Each semester students need to submit the internal benefit request form(s) after registering for courses. Submitting this form notifies the VRC staff the student is wanting to use their benefits for that semester.

-All classes must contribute to the declared degree program, declared minor or certificate in order to receive payment from the VA. Students should consult with their academic advisor if in doubt about class choices.

What is the Process to If Add/Drop a Class?

Students who drop/add a class AFTER filling out the UK internal benefit request form should email the VRC staff at VetCenter@uky.edu  as soon as possible.

About the University of Kentucky SVA Chapter

The UK SVA is a growing chapter that wants to gather student veterans in a place where they feel like they can be themselves, network with other veterans and businesses and gain a sense of belonging among other college students.

How to Join the UK SVA Chapter

There is no long-term commitment, yearly or monthly dues, or any other financial commitment to join the SVA.
