Parent and Family FAQs
Can I speak with someone about the concerns I have for my student?
The Center for Support and Intervention staff are happy to speak with you regarding concerns you may have for your student. Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we are unable to share specific information with you unless we have a signed FERPA release of information on file. Your student can access that form here. However, we are able to speak with you regarding our policies, procedures, and resources available on campus, and will listen to any information you are able to provide. You may also submit a referral for your student to be contacted by our office here.

I submitted a referral regarding my student. Will I receive an update on the situation?
Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), we are unable to share information with you unless we have a signed FERPA release of information on file. Your student can access that form here. We are able to speak with you regarding our policies, procedures and resources available on campus, but are unable to provide specific information regarding your student’s engagement with our office.
How do I know when and where to refer my student for support?
Parents or Family will often refer their student to our office if they are unsure of or concerned about the student’s connection to needed support. Please see When to Refer for more details. Please call us if you have additional questions, we are happy to help.
What happens if my student doesn’t engage with the Center for Support and Intervention, but they still appear to be struggling?
Please let us know, we are happy to attempt additional outreach. We are also able to connect with other partners on campus, such as Residence Life staff and Academic Advisors to provide additional attempts at connection and support.
How can I best support my student?
Our UK Parent and Family Association has several resources for connecting with your student and understanding the student experience.
Often students may not know the resources or they may face barriers to getting connected. Knowing the resources on campus and encouraging your student to engage can be very helpful. See our Resources Page for resources we refer to the most.
Why is my student being contacted by the Center for Support and Intervention?
The Center for Support and Intervention receives referrals from faculty, staff, and family members when they have a concern for a student’s well-being or behavior demonstrating signs of difficulty. If your student is receiving outreach from our office, they have likely been referred for support and our outreach is requesting to meet to be able to assess their needs and provide support.
