Using Your MGIB Benefits at UK

How To Start Using the VA MGIB Benefit at UK?

Student needs to submit the UK internal benefit request form after registering for courses: Click Here to Submit Your Form

IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Each semester students need to submit the internal benefit request form after registering for courses. Submitting this form notifies the VRC staff the student is wanting to use their benefits for that semester.

-All classes must contribute to the declared degree program, declared minor or certificate in order to receive payment from the VA. Students should consult with their academic advisor if in doubt about class choices.

What Does Montgomery GI Bill Benefit Pay?

  • Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) benefit pays a monthly stipend directly to the student while class is in session.
    • Payment will direct-deposit into the bank routing number you provided to the VA on your original application for benefits. MGIB stipend DOES NOT come to UK Student Account Services.
  • The amount of the monthly stipend depends upon a number of factors, such as whether the student bought into the "Kicker" program.
    • For information on the "Kicker" program, GO HERE
    • For information on base rates for Chapter 30 MGIB (active duty military members) and Chapter 1606 MGIB (members of the National Guard and Reserves), visit the VA website HERE
  • The benefit pays a month in arrears.
    • The earliest you can expect to see payment from the VA for the Fall term is around September first. That payment will be a small one. The first full payment will arrive around October 1st, payment for September.
  • VRC does not have access to VA payment records to check on the status of Chapter 35 payments. For questions regarding Chapter 35 stipend, contact the VA Education Hotline at 888-442-4551.
    • Allow a 5-day window on either side of the first of each month for the payment to appear in your account.

Using MGIB Benefits for Tuition/On-Campus Housing/Dining

  • The total funds received from MGIB benefit may NOT cover students total tuition, housing or dining costs. Depending on housing, meal plan and additional Financial Aid, student may very well have out-of-pocket expenses.
