  • Click the Confirm Reservation button to complete scheduling the appointment.

*Please note that Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the only web browsers compatible with myUK. Using Safari, Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge will lead to compatibility issues

How do I get my hold lifted?

You can view your active holds on the MyInfo page on your MyUK account. During the registration period, an advisor hold will be placed on your account. This means that you will need to meet with your advisor to discuss your course options for the upcoming semester. Once you do so, your advisor will lift this hold.

Other offices around campus (parking, student health, library, tuition, etc.) may place holds on your account throughout the school year, which can prevent you from registering for courses. For this reason, it is important to keep all accounts up to date. You will need to contact the corresponding office to resolve any holds affecting your account. Your advisor can only lift advising holds from student accounts. If you have a financial hold on my account for tuition, parking ticket, health bill, etc. that is preventing you from registering for classes, please contact Financial Omsbud Services at financialombud@lsv.uky.edu

What is myUK GPS?

myUK Graduation Planning System (GPS) is an interactive, integrated system in which students can plan and register for courses and track progress toward the completion of degree requirements. Click here for myUK GPS registration instructions.

  • A pre-major GPA calculator can be found here (Calculator is based on 4 credit hours for MA 123, so it may not be the most accurate if you did not take that course through UK.)

Registration Questions

How many credits do I need to be full-time?

  • Maximum of 19 credit hours during the fall & spring semesters.
  • For summer: a maximum of 9 credit hours in the eight-week session, 4 credit hours in the four-week term, and under no circumstances more than 13 credits during the summer term/ session.
  • Students on academic probation may take no more than 15 credit hours in a regular semester, 3 credit hours in a four-week term, or 7 credit hours in a six- or eight-week session.

Can I enroll in more than 19 credit hours?

The maximum credit hours undergraduate students in good standing can enroll in during the fall and spring Semesters is 19. The maximum allowable load to be carried during any summer term/session for undergraduate students (including residence or audit courses) shall be 9 credit hours in the eight-week summer session and 4 credits in the four-week term, but under no circumstances no more than 13 credits during the summer term and summer session. A student on academic probation shall take no more than 15 credit hours in a semester, 3 credit hours in a four-week term, or 7 credit hours in a six- or eight-week session.

To request special permission to take more than the maximum credit hours allowed, please submit a Credit Hour Limit Exception Request from.

A class I need is full; what are my options?

Check the course catalog for any additional sections that might have a seat available. If there are none, enroll in a section with a seat on the waitlist. Another option is to contact the instructor of your desired section, and ask if they will grant you an override for their course (see below for further instructions if you obtain an override).

How does the Course Waitlist Function work?

If a course is full, some courses have an option to get on a waitlist. Use myUK GPS Registration to sign up for a waitlist for a closed class. The course will appear in the Registration System as WAITLISTED with your waitlist number. When a student drops a course, the person in the first position of the waitlist is automatically enrolled and the other students move up one spot. Once you are enrolled in a waitlisted course, the course status on your schedule will change from WAITLISTED to ENROLLED.  If you waitlist a course, be sure to check your schedule on myUK periodically to determine if your status for the course has changed. You are responsible for monitoring your status in this course. You may remove yourself from the waitlist at any time during registration or drop/add by using the Drop function.

To be eligible for a waitlist course you must meet all course prerequisites and pass all restrictions. You cannot waitlist a course that has a time conflict with an enrolled course, and you cannot waitlist a course for a different section of a course you are already enrolled. You may only waitlist one section per course.

Adding yourself to a waitlist does NOT guarantee the hours to your schedule. You should consider registering for an alternate course in case the waitlist course remains unavailable. You can always drop the alternate course upon being added to the waitlisted course. Please note that enrolled hours plus waitlisted hours may not exceed your credit load limit, and that waitlisted hours do not count toward full-time status. You will remain on the waitlist until you are successfully enrolled in the course, or until the last day to add a class when all waitlists are automatically purged.

How do I obtain an override to get into a class?

Overrides into FULL or RESTRICTED courses must be given by the instructor or department from which the course is offered. Make sure you meet the pre-requisites for the course before asking for an override. All overrides are issued electronically. Please remember that if an override is granted, it does not mean that you are automatically enrolled in the class – you still need to add the course to your schedule through myUK or completing the late add form on the A&S Advisng Forms website. If you are trying to add a course after the deadline or are unable to add the course yourself through myUK, you must provide email permission from the instructor when you fill out form.

How do I get a time conflict override?

You must have email permission from both instructors of the two overlapping courses stating the conflict is ok. Next, complete the Time Conflict Form, then submit the emails and form to asadvisingcenter@uky.edu. You cannot register for two overlapping courses using myUK GPS.

How do I register for a graduate-level course (600-level or higher?)

If you are an A&S student, please complete the Undergraduate Enrollment in a Graduate-Level Course form and submit it to asadvisingcenter@uky.edu. The A&S Advisng Cneter will add the Dean's representative's signature. If approved, the form will be sent back to the Graduate School where they will enroll you in the class.

What is the deadline for adding or dropping a class?

For exact dates, refer to the Academic Calendar. Typically, you may add a class during the first week of the semester and drop a class during the first three weeks. If you choose to drop a class after the last day, a “W” (withdrawal) will be placed on your transcript.

How do I withdraw from a class?

It may, especially if the drop will place you in part-time status (i.e., below 12 hours). Contact the Student Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to be sure.

I missed my priority registration window. Now what?

Priority registration is based on the number of credit hours you’ve already earned. If you missed your priority registration window, you will have other opportunities to register. Log in to myUK and click “Plan and Register for Courses.”

How do I find out what classes are being offered next semester?

Some classes offer an electronic wait list, and a student may place themselves on the list. Once a seat in the class is available, the student will automatically be enrolled in the order in which they were waitlisted. It’s important to check the wait list to find out if you get enrolled in the class. Contact the appropriate department for additional details. If a student is still on an electronic wait list at the end of the last day to add a class (one week after classes begin), the student will be dropped from the wait list. Please have a backup plan in place.

What is an “advisor hold”?

An advisor hold is in place to ensure you meet with your advisor and discuss your class schedule prior to registering for classes. If you have met with an advisor and your hold has not been lifted, contact the Office for Student Success

Transfer credit taken at another institution to UK?

You can order an electronic transcript through the National Student Clearinghouse to be sent to the University of Kentucky (admissions@uky.edu). If you cannot find the institution you attended in the National Student Clearinghouse, you will need to request your transcript directly from the institution and have it sent to the UK Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Majors and Minors

What is a double major?

A student working toward a degree will complete all university, college, major and pre-major requirements. In addition, a student may choose to complete all major and pre-major requirements in another area. This may be done concurrently or once the first degree is earned. It will not result in additional degrees; however, the second major will be reflected on the student’s transcript. It is recommended that a student have an advisor in their degree area as well as their second major area.

A graduate student must have special permission from The Graduate School to add a double major. Double or tertiary majors can be added through the online major change system

How and when can I change my major?

Majors can be changed via the online major change system in myUK. Some programs have selective admission; if you’re planning to earn a degree in the following colleges you’ll need to contact them to apply prior to changing your major: Business and Economics, Nursing, Health Sciences, or Communication and Information.

What is a dual degree?

A dual degree will result in two earned degrees. A student must complete all university, college, pre-major and major requirements for the primary degree and for the secondary degree; however, it is possible for requirements in one degree to fulfill parallel requirements in the second degree. A student must earn a minimum of 144 between both degrees. Students may earn two degrees concurrently and are required to have an advisor in each degree program.

What is a minor?

A minor is a structured group of courses that leads to a solid understanding of a subject, although with less depth than a major. Depending on interests and career goals, some students choose to complement their major program with a minor in a related field or even in an entirely different field of interest.

What is certificate?

Certificate programs offer students a convenient and flexible way to earn credentials for career advancement. All are cross-disciplinary clusters of courses integrated in a way that identifies a set of skills or knowledge that carries college credit and is applied to a student’s degree.

How do I add or remove a major, minor, or certificate?

Majors, minors and certificates can be changed through the online major change system
