Intramural Scratch Sports are back and better than ever this semester, with one exciting change. Scratch sports give you and your team the chance to play across a short 2–4 week season without the pressure of making playoffs or winning a certain number of games. It’s designed to be a league that you make your own, whether your goal is to compete for bragging rights or simply get together with friends and enjoy some games.

The new twist this semester is the addition of an optional playoff tournament at the end of the season. Teams can decide whether they want to participate, giving everyone the chance to compete for the championship if they choose. For those looking to finish the season on top, it’s the perfect opportunity to chase the glory.

A great example of this format in action was our recent Scratch Pickleball League. The league ran for three weeks, with teams playing two games each week. At the end of the regular season, teams had the opportunity to compete in a tournament. A total of 22 teams entered the bracket, competing in a double-elimination tournament.

It was an amazing tournament with plenty of upsets and close game, but in the end, LeBron Lovers, made up of Dean Huffman and Paul Delligatti, took home the championship. Their path to the title was especially impressive, as they fought their way from the 16-seed all the way to the final to claim the prize.

There are still two more Scratch Sports coming up this semester:

Softball — Begins April 6 (Registration closes April 1)

Whether you’re looking to compete or just have fun with friends, Scratch Sports are a great way to stay active and get involved on campus.
