UK Campus Recreation fitness instructors traveled to SE FitExpo 2026, joining peers from across the SEC to learn, connect, and grow as leaders in group fitness and wellness. From high-energy classes to innovative facility tours, the experience provided fresh inspiration to bring back to UK Campus Recreation programs.

Exploring Clemson Campus Recreation

As part of the FitExpo experience, instructors toured Clemson University’s Campus Recreation facilities and were especially impressed by the creativity and variety of their spaces.

For Eliza Aaron, the cycle studio stood out as a highlight.“The bikes were arranged in elevated, stadium-style rows, which created such a cool, immersive feel,” she said. “The sound system, dark lighting, and dynamic lighting design created an energizing atmosphere I would love to replicate in my own classes.”

Other instructors were inspired by Clemson’s outdoor recreation offerings. Amber Singh highlighted lake access, canoeing opportunities, and outdoor learning spaces that integrate wellness into campus life.

Bryanna Theeuwes and Bella Detmer emphasized the variety of specialized fitness studios, including Les Mills programming spaces, cycle studios, and dedicated mind-body rooms that support both high-energy group fitness and individualized instruction.

Across the board, instructors noted how intentionally designed spaces help campuses meet a wide range of student fitness needs.

Why Attend FitExpo?

For UK instructors, FitExpo is more than a conference, it’s an opportunity for professional growth, connection, and inspiration.

“I attended to grow and develop as a group fitness instructor,” said Eliza Aaron. “Learning from instructors across the SEC gave me new ideas and practical techniques I can bring back to my classes.”

Anna Johnson reflected on returning year after year to reconnect with peers and learn from other universities. “I always leave feeling inspired and excited to instruct and train my clients,” she shared.

For Bryanna Theeuwes, the experience centered on both learning and community. “FitExpo was a great way to make fitness fun and connect with others who share similar interests.”

Highlights from the Conference

Instructors participated in a wide range of group fitness classes, workshops, and presentations, making the experience both energizing and educational. Participants highlighted high-energy group fitness formats, choreography-based dance classes, and hands-on workshops led by industry professionals.

One of the most valuable aspects was the opportunity to both experience new formats and take classes they already teach, allowing instructors to refine their own programming ideas.

For Bella Detmer, that balance of learning and energy made a lasting impact. “Being surrounded by passionate professionals creates a contagious energy,” she said. “I leave each year with new skills, programming ideas, and motivation to continue doing what I love.”

Connection was also a key takeaway. “My favorite part was meeting people from other schools with similar interests,” shared Keira Quinn. “It was inspiring to hear about their experiences in campus recreation.”

Favorite Classes and Presenters

Dance-based fitness and high-energy strength formats stood out as participant favorites, with instructors highlighting creativity, confidence, and fun within choreography-driven sessions.

One instructor reflected on a standout experience: “The energy, music, and structure made the class incredibly engaging. It gave me great ideas for how to keep participants motivated while maintaining strong programming flow.”

Educational sessions also left a strong impression. Presenters such as Demar Jackson were recognized for their storytelling and leadership insight. A particularly impactful session focused on “saying yes to opportunities,” encouraging participants to embrace new challenges and growth experiences within their careers.

Why They Keep Coming Back

For returning attendees, FitExpo continues to be a highlight of their professional development journey.

“It truly is a great experience to further your education, skills, connections, and relationships in the fitness and wellness industry,” said Amber Singh.

Anna Johnson emphasized the community aspect: “The people keep me coming back each year. I always walk away feeling energized and inspired.”

Looking Ahead

UK Campus Recreation instructors returned from SE FitExpo 2026 with fresh ideas, renewed energy, and a stronger commitment to creating engaging, inclusive, and innovative fitness experiences for the UK community.

These insights will directly inform programming and space utilization as UK Campus Recreation moves into an exciting period of expansion, including a new Matrix-designed cycle studio, a dedicated mind and body studio, and expanded fitness offerings featuring outdoor training space and an indoor turf area.

Their participation reflects UK Campus Recreation’s ongoing commitment to professional development, student leadership, and excellence in fitness programming.
