Climbing Wall & Belay Classes Closed
Climbing Wall Closure and What's Coming Next
The UK JC Climbing Wall is now closed as we prepare for demolition and the next phase of the UK Johnson Center Expansion. This project will make room for a new climbing experience, upgrading from our current 30ft wall to a 55ft climbing wall with dedicated bouldering areas and a bouldering cave.
The new wall is scheduled to open as part of the expansion in fall 2026 and will offer expanded opportunities for climbers of all levels.
In the meantime, please look out for climbing related Outdoor Adventure trips, including excursions to the Red River Gorge and other destinations, so you can continue climbing while construction is underway.
Thank you for your patience as we prepare for what's next!
Climbing Wall - Closed
How it works...
The Johnson Center Climbing Wall is closed and will re-open in fall 2026.
- Sign a waiver form once annually
- Staff are present to belay
- All equipment needed to participate will be provided
- Personal harnesses, shoes, and chalk are welcome
- Belay certification test is available for those desiring to climb independently of staff.
Belay Classes - Suspended until new wall is open
This class will focus on the fundamentals of how to properly belay with a top rope setup. The class will cover equipment used, climbing verbiage and other useful tips. At the conclusion of the course all participants will be prepared to take the belay test on their next visit to the rock wall.
This course is not required to climb at the wall as there will be staff working who would be more than happy to help belay you. This is not a learn to climb class. Previous climbing experience recommended.
**If you already are a confident belayer ask one of the staff to take a belay test.
