How to File the FAFSA

In order to apply for aid at the University of Kentucky, follow the steps below:

  1. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA). Applying online is the most expedient way to apply for assistance and includes built in "edits" that help filers avoid common mistakes. You must complete the application and list the University of Kentucky's school code (001989).
  • If you plan to attend the 2026 summer session, complete both the 2025-26  FAFSA and the 2026-27 FAFSA.  The deadline for completing the 2025-26 FAFSA was June 30, 2026.
  • If you plan to attend during the 2026-27 academic year, please complete the 2026-27 FAFSA.

    2. Submit the FAFSA electronically. Note: If you complete a paper FAFSA, mail it to the national processor as indicated in the instructions. Do not send it to the University of Kentucky.

    3. You will receive an email notification from FAFSA that your application is processed. You may log back in to review your application and/or make changes.
